Okay, I understand that ripping a DVD is an EXTREMELY complicated process (at least code-wise) and that it takes a considerable amount of time to do so.

I have had little luck using older DVD-rip softs, the kind that like to crash at 47% of the rip, around 3:29am after you've left the process to run itself.

That said; which programs offer a good UI/GUI, quick rip times (is this a factor that cant be decreased any more than has already been done?) and subtitle/audio controls?

I've thought about the DVDXCOPY and similar softs as a solution to backing up my DVDs- but i don't really know what's best.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi

all you need is DVDshrink and DVDDecrypter!

Go to the sofware section or do a search on these two pieces of software.

Agree with sdfuk

With DVDshrink and DVDDecrypter it is a very simple uncomplicated process if you use these software and read the guides available on this site.

Another easy to use combination would be DVDDecrypter
and clone dvd.Again very easy to use and great quality and a nice alternative to shrink.Although i would try shrink first to see if you like.

clonedvd 2 from elby is very easy to use and even though i use this a lot, lately i have found shrink to be very versatile. However there are other programs that do very good quality but are at the higher end of dvd production.

Maybe do some research on dvd architect before you buy.Below is a rough idea of what it covers.

Sony Pictures Digital proudly introduces DVD Architect software, your one-stop shop for authoring and burning DVDs.

DVD Architect software lets you create menu-based DVDs, music compilations, picture compilations, or a single-movie DVD that will play back automatically in your DVD player.

Sure, you loved version 1.0, but you'll be amazed by how much more you can do in version 2.0 and how quickly your project comes together.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What's new in version 2.0
End actions for menus and media files

Multiple audio tracks

Subtitle support

User-defined navigation for each button

Enable/disable of DVD player remote control buttons during menus, media files, picture compilations, and music compilations.

Improved masking for buttons and frames (available in the Graphics controls in the Button Properties settings).

Elementary stream import

External monitor preview

Streamlined menu and object properties editing

Copy media with project during project save

No encoding of compliant menu pages

Support for 24p MPEG files and preparation of 24p DVD projects

Support for all valid DVD video resolutions: NTSC ? 720x480, 704x480, 352x480, 352x240 (24 & 29.97fps) and PAL ? 720x576, 704x576, 352x576, 352x288 (25fps).

Menu transitions via end actions

Setup/language selection menus via button actions

as to your other question concerning quick rip times i found that even though i upped my ram from 512 to 1024 it only cut the time by about 7 mins which is not much considering it takes about 25mins when you burn disc to hard drive to disc and about 10-15 mins from hard drive to disc

Thanks for the replies, guys (and/or gals)

I hadnt even heard of dvdshrink/decrypt until now but I think I may be in love. This is a far cry from using the old command line stuff.....

Appreciate the help.

no probs but it really is worth reading up on the programs available and then seeing which one is going to suit you. There are one click tools and then there are ones which let you play around a bit to tweak them
depending on what you want to accomplish.

have fun and maybe check the other parts of the forum and the guides sections out

both programmes can be found at slysoft.com
