hi there.
just looking for some answer to a few things i need to know about encode settings (format and ratio)

i have a lot of low res avi vids (eg:512x385 4:3 ratio, pal format and varying from 20min to 2hrs long) and am about to encode them to full size 720x576 dvd-pal compliant mpeg-2 files using TMPGEnc 3.0 xpress and MainConcept 1.4.2
i was going to encode them all in PAL 16:9 ratio, but have recently been told that i should only encode the output files using the same format (pal or ntsc) and aspect ratio (4:3 or 16:9) as the source file.
i have already encoded some pal and ntsc 4:3 vids to pal 16:9, and burnt them to dvd with tmpge dvd author, and all playback perfect on my tv.
is this advice correct and why should it be done.

i was also told that if i merge 2 or more vids together with tmpge 3.0, the source files should also be the same format and ratios for a successful merge.
is this also correct ???

and was told that if i want to author a dvd using 2 or more seperate vids with menus, all the vids should be the same aspect ratio as each other.

this is why i want to encode using the same settings on all, so they all end up the same format and ratio.

hope someone can help with some advice, its dam hard to find anything published about these settings.
