Burn speed with old Kodak Golds

I managed to buy a couple hundred Kodak Gold 8x just before they stopped producing. The remainder are now getting on in years and I am wondering if it would be best to lower the burning speed to 1x for my music backups. Any experience with old stock Kodaks? Thanks, muzhok.
