Hello.

I have an internal CD-RW/DVD and I keep getting some odd things happening. My PC has been in for repairs over this before and they only cleans the laser and the problem has returned. I don't know for sure if my burner is faulty or if I have a driver missing.

I use Windows XP and most of the time when I burn files I right click on a file and burn it that way using Microsoft software. This is the method where a speech balloon appears at the bottom of my screen at one point. Anyway, this worked fine when I first got my PC and it worked fine when I got it back from repairs. Now, when I burn like that, I get an error at the end of burning and the file is on the CD but the file doesn't delete itself from the special file that contains files to burn. My PC thinks the file hasn't burnt. I have to delete in myself. I can burn okay through my Roxio that I use with no problem.

Things got worse before and they have reached that stage again. Now, my CD and DVD burner can't read all my home-made CDs. It can read software but not all my home-made CDs. It used to read them home-made CDs okay before and not anymore. Other home-made CDs of mine are read okay unless my CD and DVD burner will no longer read them at a later stage, I don't know.

Do I have a faulty CD and DVD burner or do I have a driver or an update missing? I don't want to send my PC off again a week after getting it back to find out the person fixing it finds nothing wrong with it otherwise I'll be re-living the same problem over and over again.

Before I forget. I must add. When I installed and external burner in that is only a CD burner, them home-made CDs that failed to be read were read in my external CD burner with no problem. I don't know if my internal CD and DVD burner needs something that my external CD burner doesn't.

Thanks.
