couple questions regarding hd advance and memory card exploit

I have a modded PS2 and successfully installed the hdloader memory card exploit to my memory card. But when I try to boot the PS2 with the orginal PSX game (in my case, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, the only US orginal I have), the PS2 boots the game directly and does not go to the memory card for the exploit files.

My other problem is regarding running games from HD Advance. I got some DVD game images loaded onto the HDD from WinHIIP. I also got a cracked working copy of HD Advance burned on a CD, not DVD (although it seems to boot fine). I used gameshark to boot and then loaded the cracked HD Advance. Everything works fine until I try to run a game, everytime I try running a game, the screen turns black and nothing happens. I've checked the compatibility page and set the correct mode for the games, but still black screen.

Can anyone please help me on these two issues? Thanks.

1. The exploit was not done correctly. The file TITLE.DB must have the SLUS name of the PS1 disk you are going to boot with. Put the PS1 disc in your PC and look for a filename similar to SLUS_XXX.XX and write it down. Get titleman.exe and put it in the same directory as TITLE.DB. Go to this folder in DOS, and type:
titleman.exe -a SLUS_XXX.XXX

where SLUS_XXX.XX is the filename you just wrote down. That will add it to TITLE.DB .
Verify this by opening TITLE.DB using notepad.
Then make your mem card exploit disc as usual.

2. You may want to try using HDLoader instead. I have had no probs with this program, but have no idea what benefits come with using HD Advance.
