I know you've all read this before...but I'm new to all this. I mean it. I have tried to read some of the other "threads" but I'm completely lost. I don't understand the language. I need help with copying dvds. I'm shopping early for a gift for my husband but I don't know what I need. We have a Kenwood HTB-805DV Home theater system with a progressive scan 5-disc dvd changer. I would like to get something that will copy existing dvds and burn dvds from the computer onto a dvd. The book for the dvd player says it does not play back "dvd audio, dvd-rom, dvd-r/dvd-ram/dvd-rw, cd-rom (except mp3, and vsd discs". I don't know what any of that means but hopefully someone can help me. We have a "cd-writer" drive in our computer and that's it. Please help me. What do I need? I'd like to keep the same quality as an original dvd. Please keep in mind that I'm not familiar with the terminology.

Figuring out the terms is pretty easy. I found www.vcdhelp.com to be very useful with TONS of articles, definitions, and links. Another site is www.afterdawn.com/articles

Figuring out how to make exact copies of DVDs is another story. The answer is: unless you have DVDs that are small in size (under 4.3 gigs) it will not be an exact copy. It CAN be done on 2 disks, but it's not that easy.

Also, first generation home DVD players are usu. not compatible with DVD-r (nor with -RW, +R, +RW) but that's another issue all together. Good Luck!

Oh, BTW, your cd-writer can be used to create VCDs (video cds) that can be played on newer home DVD players as well.

If your DVD plaer won't play dvd-r or any other variant then you are a bit stuffed unless you buy a new DVD player as well
