WinAVI converter sound problem

Hi,

I'm very new to all this so please bear with me!

I'm attempting to convert some .OGM files so I can view them on a stabdard DVD player. I'm using a program called WinAVI conveter in order to do this. The conversion seems to work fine, however the sound quality in the converted files is very poor (really crackly, almost impossible to make out). Does anybody have any advice for me? Thanks,
