Hello,
I have converted some of my VHS tapes, from my analog camcorder, to DVD. I am able to play them in my DVD player/recorder attached to our TV and they will play on our PC. The problem is I am having trouble getting editing software to recognize the DVD's. I feel it may be a format problem. I have been trying to use Vegas Movie Studio 4.0 (trial version) and have had no luck. I know that this software (trial version) will not edit MPEG format. Is there a freeware software that will tell me what format my DVD's are recorded in? If they are in MPEG would I be better off to have them converted to another format before editing? If so, what format would you recommend and how would you recommend that I make the conversion to the new format?

Thanks for your help.
