Finalize DVD-RW?

I have a Sony DVD player, model DVP-S300, that can't play my Memorex DVD-RWs. The same DVDs play fine on my computer. Will I need to "finalize" my DVD-RWs to play them on my Sony player?

Once a DVD-RW has been finalized, can it no longer be erased or overwritten?
