ps2 compatibility issue?

Well I have jap ps2 v4, origa chip v1, samsung 60g, mc exploit free hdloader. It`s working with no prob.
So my friend who has a non modded pal ps2 v4 wanted to try this free hdloader, too.
He has a second hd so he want to tryout if the hd is compatible. It`s an IBM 61.4g.

First I succesfuly installed the mc exploit in his mc with my modded jap ps2.
Then I put his IBM hd(set to master) in my jap ps2 v4 with his mc and booted using the psx game.
The IBM hd was recognized and I did formated.
I installed a ps2 game and I could play it.

But when I put the IBM hd in his pal ps2 v4 with the same mc and booting the same psx game. The original psx logo appears.

The only answer was that his pal ps2 v4 is not compatible.
Or can someone report same prob?
Any solution?
