No, there is another way a really simple way.
www.ps2ownz.com has a hdd fix for socom 2. If you can't find it there I can upload it for you on a server.

could you explain this HDD fix for socom? I found ps2ownz site to be a little messy. I would appreciate the upload if you could do that too. SOCOM ADDICT SINCE SOCOM 1.

there is a program ppf patcher. Use this program in combination with the file i uploaded to patch you're image.
If you have a modchip like dms3 or infinity you don't have to do all this.
For the ppf patcher go here http://www.megagames.com

excuse my ignorance. So I need to get the PPF-O-Matic? I am still a little lost. If you could give me a little more instruction it would help. I'm a newb when it comes to this PS2 hacking. HDLoader is all I know at the moment. cuz it is extremely easy.

Yes you need the PPF-O-Matic.
It's not hard to do. Just open the PPF-O-Matic and select your image file and the socom patch.

Can you put a Disc-ID patch on after your patch to run the game from the harddrive AND be able to download maps?

Yes,
After patching with ppf o matic you can use ps2nfo image patcher to make it compitable for online too.

Since I cannot seem to get in contact with you I'm going to try and explain what I think I need to do.
I need to have my socom disc in the cdrom. then I'm patching it with the ppf o matic? then burning a disc?
This doesn't sound right. all I need is a few step-by-step instructions and I should be on my way.

this is in responce to angeloE9's question from above
umm the game itself, in this case socom2, cant go online from a image on the hdd because of dnas. Anyways im am pretty sure that putting socom 2 on your hdd would be uselss unless you wnated to play offline

Phoenix2,
How about if you only want to use a unofficail HD for the Socom 2 maps. I don't want to put an image of Socom 2, only the maps.
Thanks
