Are there some games that wont work with HDL but will with HDA?

I cant get Gradius V to work with HDL. I have a friend with HDA. Is it even worth it to try, or is it basically the same software?

gradius v will not work with hdloader or hdadvance since the game is incompatible. i also tried it out myself. hdadvance is a clone of hdloader so they are basicly the same tho i heard hdloader was a better software than hdadvance.
