I recently bought an AV420 (which is very cool by the way, highly reccomend) therefore need to rip dvd's and be left with a compatible MPEG4 file.
I've got the software to convert an avi into mpeg4 so i've started the process of converting dvd into avi.
To do this I have followed the guides for "DVD to VCD"
presuming at the point of converting in TMPGEnc i will be able to encode into MPEG.
So many ways and so many variables involved in the process that I'm starting to get lost and keep coming up against the same problems......so any help would be great.
I'm using DVD Decrypter to copy the VOB files to my HD - I initially tried using TMPGEnc straight after but it does not accept the audio on any DVD - following instructions I've used both DVD2AVI to create a seperate sound file and a couple of other DVD audio rippers.
I then go back to TMPGEnc and when the audio source states "NO DATA FOUND" i browse and select the audio file.
I am trying to rip a episode of 24 DVD the problems I am having are two fold;
1) the audio files ripped from the dvd aren't as long as the video.
video totals: 165 mins
audio totals: 100 mins
2)i can't sync the audio i do have with the video
So i need to know if A) I'm following the right process and B) what i need to do to be left with a a perfect avi file with sync'd video and sound.
I'm trying to rip a Massive Attack music DVD - The audio is recognised by TMPGEnc so no need for DVD2AVI -
However the DVD is 60 mins long split into 4 x 15 min VOB files. For some reason the fourth VOB will not load into TMPGEnc saying "VOB 4 cannot be used as a video file, can read audio only"
Any ideas what this is about and how i can rip the rest of the DVD??

Also in my previous example ripping 24, when you are left with say 4 files in TMPGEnc and selecting the audio created by DVD2AVI - do you need to split the WAV file --- otherwise you load the same length wav audio for each video clip.

i'm unfamiliar with with the software you were urged to try but maybe an alternative program which will work on mpeg4 files is an (mpeg4 to mpeg 2 converter)
Below is a little summary:
Cucusoft AVI to DVD/VCD/SVCD/MPEG Converter Pro is a powerful utility for video file conversion. The main features include: conversion of AVI files to DVD, VCD, SVCD, MPEG1 and MPEG2 format; support for DivX AVI, XviD AVI, MPEG1 (layer1, layer2, and layer3), MPEG2, and MPEG4 formats; 'split function' to split large MPEG files into several small segments, for CD-R burning; NTSC/ PAL setting option; input/output preview; fill in/proportional options for cropping output video; high audio quality; output of .M2V and .MPA for DVD author; support for no-sound AVI files; and optimized performance for Intel Pentium 3 and 4, and AMD Athlon processors.
It may not be the program you are looking for but it might point you in a different direction and help you to find a solution
K, well I've sorted it.....it was the setting in SmartRipper not to split VOB files but to have one large one.
The second solution was to delete ifo files once ripped so TMPGEnc only reads the VOB file.
Nephilim, don't know what your point was above....i am a newbie who has worked ripping out for myself in 5 days and the problems i've encountered are sure to be experienced by others.
