Memorex 4X DVD-R are these things any good? because there cheap and im a newb to this stuff and was wondering on what kind of blank DVD's to buy to back up my movies

I personally don't like memorex. If you buy the small packs, like 10-20, I'd try to stay with Maxell, Sony.
Otherwise, you might try Meritline.com for some good deals on Ritek which are one of the preferred disc's used by AD Forum members.

I use memorex DVD+R 4x and now I'm using the 8x ones and I have backed up close to 300 movies and have not had one problem with the disc anyway.

I use Ritek exclusively. Never had a problem. You can get them cheap from Newegg.com :)

I had both good and bad batches of these. My advice is to steer clear of them. It's not worth the risk. I only choose Ritek now.
