I'm trying to get the new Star Wars DVD's on my hard drive in mpeg-2 format so I can edit them and play them back in Windows Media player... sounds easy right?

I've been at this for 4 days now, and keep getting the same problem. There is some strangeness going on with the time coding, causing the Windows player to jump over certain parts, notably around new chapters. The information is on the file(s) I create, as I can back up and see parts that were skipped over. However the VOB's and other files will play in the ATI media player.

I've ripped and decrypted the VOB's using both DVDDecrypter and DVDShrink, using more option combinations than I care to think about. I've tried many conversion tools, including just renaming the vob to mpg, since it should be a valid mp2 stream. Same error every time. 20th century fox logo, lucas film logo, then skips right over "A Long time ago, in a galaxy far far away..." and picks up in the middle of the flying story, and performs similarly throughout the rest of the movie.

I'm looking to maintain original quality, basically just store them on my hard drive so I can string them together and do a little Premiere editing. Any help or explainations would be greatly appreciated.
