Hi all :D. I'm newbie, I having a trouble about VirtualDub.
I follow a step by step this guide to:
http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/copy_dvd_to_xvid.cfm
But when I launch VirtualDub and open the VFAPIConvered file. It show a erro like this:
"Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'vifp'(unknown)
VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows(VFW) compatible codec to decompress video.
DerectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable."
I installed Nimocodac 8 but it don't work too. I also try Klite codec. So, which codec I should use to fix this erro?
Thanks so much.

Doh, lost my post. There should be a file in your VFAPI folder that has a really obvious name for registering extensions or installing it. It might be a .bat or .ini or something, I forget. Try running that, then trying to open it again.

You need the VFAPI package. Read the guides on converting to DVD to DivX, and there will be links and explanations on how to get it, install it and use it.
Seek and you shall find.

when I launch VirtualDub and open a file.AVI, It show an error like this:
"Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'WMV3' (unknown).
VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to
decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media
Player, are not suitable. Only 'Direct stream copy' is available for this
video."
What can I do??
P.s. I have Vfapicodec. Thanks

Try installing the latest version of Windows Media Player. I can't say I've ever had this problem, but I suspect that will solve your problem.

And as for XviD, install the xvid codec... Isn't that one of the first things the guides say you should do?

Guys,
Forget that old guide (sorry) and use AutoGK:
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_tools/autoGK.cfm Trust me, you can convert DVDs manually with VDub but it's a thankless task.
These days, I use VDub for muxing together AVI video and audio, for file information, or even to turn a video clip into 30 BMPs/second...
But don't punish yourself making XviDs that way OK?
If you want total manual control (more user-active) you can even use the full GordianKnot if you prefer, for maximum quality.
There is also a lot of GKnot info and guides on AD and elsewhere :)
