I apologize if this is repetive... I got through 13 pages of posts and couldn't find it.

I am in the market for a digital camcorder and am a total novice. I was leaning heavily towards an MV camcorder, specifically the Canon Optura Xi, but my wife got fired up about DVD camcorders and the battle is on. Opinions? My biggest question is regarding the ability to edit the video. I want to do family history type stuff and want to produce my own stuff. I have heard things that dvd camcorders don't interact well with software like Pinnacle or Ulead. Is this true or just crap. All help would be greatly appreciated.
