My friend just came back from Japan and he bought me some dvds but they wont play on US dvd players, does anyone know if the swap magic would allow me to play these discs on my playstation???? Figured it would be a cheap solution.

you could reburn them and make them region free. Or there is a disc called dvdregionx (i think).
