I'd like to know more about the different kinds of dye types.
Mine said "phase change".
I want to know how many different types there are and what do they mean?

thanks :)

Phase change disks don't use dye, they have a crystaline layer for data storage. When heated by a high power laser and then rapidly cooled, the layer becomes amorphous and relatively matte. When heated by a lower power laser the surface anneals and cools into a reflective crystaline surface. The matte/shiny areas encode the data, and as the layer can be reheated, these disks are usually rewritable. DVD+-RW and DVD-RAM disks all use this technology. There is however, a limit to the number of transitions the layer can make, this is around 1000 re-recordings for DVD+-RW and 100,000 for DVD-RAM (which uses higher quality media and bad sector re-allocation).

What should I look for on DVD+R and/or DVD-R?
