hi,

please can someone help me? i've searched the forums and cannot find an answer to my problem - forgive me if i have missed the thread with the info i need...

anyway, the problem...

i have backed up some of my dvd's on to my hard drive using dvd decrypter and/or dvd shrink (shrink doesn't work with all). however, when i try to play these back in powerdvd5 or windvd, the image appears only at the edges of the screen - squashed into small vertical bars. the audio is fine using spdif output with full 5.1 sound.

the same dvd rips work fine using video lan client, but the image quality is poor.

i must say that i have recently had to rebuild my pc. before i did, the rips worked fine in powerdvd5. although i have reinstalled everything as it was (i think) this problem now exists.

codecs installed are xvid mpeg4, divx pro, ac3 decoder v1.2.4b and 3ivx d4 v4.51 - i don't know if these make any difference.

i'm running xp sp1

i have a second problem - i have some avi files with ac3 encoding, but my av amp does not play them back in 5.1 - i thought the only codec i needed was ac3 decoder but to no avail.

if anyone can shed some light on these problems, i'd be most grateful

...i've just installed gspot and am amazed at the number of video codecs installed on my system! including moonlight & indeo codecs which i thought i had removed (add/remove programs) from my system. they are definately not shown there but are shown in gspot - whats going on???
