How can XBOX play PAL games so well?

Hey all!
Here in my suite we have a modded xbox and modded PS2. This past week I've been trying out import games from various countries just for kicks (and to test out the modchips)
I've found that everything works as i expect except that PAL games on the xbox work fine whereas PAL games on the PS2 flicker (as i would expect)

It's my understanding that PAL has a different resolution and frequency, so how is it that PAL games on the XBOX look fine while PAL games on the PS2 flicker?
