Hey all,
i've been reading up on modding my ps2 now that my bro is coming home from japan (he's got a crap load of rare imports you could NEVER find in the states) and I was curious as to the opinions on a few mod chips and resellers in the states for a Playstaton 2 V2. I've read through the forums but it seems like no one else has below a V3, so I'd like to get some input on this ps2.
I'm very tempted to go with the DMS 3 pro as it seems to have the most features of any chips that support v2, although it also seems to be one of the more pricey mod chips out there.
I found it here for $44.99 http://www.divineo.com/cgi-bin/div-us/p2-dms3p although I have honestly not seen one link to these guys, so I don't nkow how trust worthy they can be.
mod-chip.com which has a good reputation had it here - http://www.mod-chip.com/en/dms3plus.htm but it was $59.99 through them (it comes w/ all those extras for install though, which might save me a few trips to radioshack or my local electronics store finding the right gauge wire, the right solder, etc.)

They also have the DMS3 v2.0 which seems to have the exact same features as the DMS3 plus http://www.mod-chip.com/en/dms3.htm minus the screen position/color fix. Am I right about this or does the DMS3 plus offer support for some features i'm overlooking?

There is also the Duo 2 SE for $39 through mod-chip.com, and i believe it was $24 through this forum's suggested seller page. It looks to me though that the Magic 3.1+ chip and the Duo 2 SE are almost identical in features, and the Magic is much cheaper, so if I'm not going to get a DMS3 plus then I'll go with the magic.

Here is what I will generally use the mod chip for: several region DVD playback (including japanese DVD format), backup DVD+R/CD-R games, some homebrew software like the various emulators just to try them out, possible network play if some new ps2 games comeout that take advantage of my network adapter. I'm willing to sacrifice the multiple region DVD playback considering my computer can do it too, so no real big concerns there.

I'm beginning to lean towards the DMS v2.0 right now because it is pretty much the exact same thing as the DMS3 plus minus the colour/screen position thing.

-Any help on this would be appreciated.

I have couple ques. I'm looking to get a Premod with DMS3 in it from xmodd. Is xmodd a reliable place, on other forums it looks reliable. Also, how exactly do u update it. And when your booting the game, does it boot automatically? Should I get DMS 3 or DMS 4? What is the difference?

Well just a quick update for anyone reading this. I purchased a DMS4 Pro and installed it myself over break. Dang these things are hard to install but it works after 4 unsuccessful attempts. I have had absolutely no problems with the DMS4 pro after install, and the Toxic OS that's coming out soon will be very cool if I want to add a hard drive later. As for pre-mods I have absolutely no idea where to pick one up, www.modchipman.com has some really good customer service, and for the extra 10 bucks you pay there it'll probably be worth your money to get the job done right.
