Hello,

I just registered to clarify something. I've been reading the forums all over the net for hours and this seemed to be the most helpful one.

What I want to confirm is the following....

I can use a downloaded copy of HDLoader BUT I need something akin to Swap Magic (or a mod chip that'll boot a back-up disk) to load it in the first place?

I know someone with a modded ps2 but I don't think they're all that technical. After reading a load of sites and info gathering, what I need to do is either borrow his ps2 (obviously an easy option but it's not someone I know directly so may be a problem) OR I can give them the following:
A ps1 memory card, a ps1 game, a CD-R that I've prepared with the HDLoader memory card exploit.

As far as I understand. If they just run this disk and press a few buttons, I should then be able to use that ps1 memory card to enable the HDD on my ps2 and create backups etc to the HDD?

I hope that makes sense and someone can give me a yay or nay and correct any mistakes I have made. Thank in advance!

Nice! You have done your homework.

You are correct on everything. However, while not impossible, it is not guaranteed that you will make the exploit disc correctly the first time. The forums are filled with people who skipped a step or something. Buy him a 6-pack to come by and let you use his PS2 for an hour or so.

Thanks for the reply! I'm hoping my boss got the message and brings his son's rarely-used, modded ps2 in with him today! Finger crossed I'll have the whole weekend to experiment.

He forgot! Well I'm going to pop into HMV on the way home and see if they've got a copy of AR Max. I've noticed a few threads explaining how to use that to set up a memory card as long as I've got my USB key, which I have.
