Hi, i have just joined afterdawn and amnew to this forum.
My question i have is when converting a avi/divx or xvid file to mpeg with TMPGEnc i realize with the completed file that is not as smooth as viewing the original avi file. I have used and checked the original files with AVIcodec to get the required info if its PAL or NTSC, frame rate type etc
There is no delay in audio with picture just the frame is not as smooth as the original.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Any time you reencode something the quality will drop by 1/2. It may not look like that much right away, but the more you reencode the more you an see it. There is really no way to prevent that from happening if you do more than one encoding.

Hi, i believe its mainly got to do with the frame rate. I have realized when say downloading movies which are either 25fps or 29.97fps it converts TMPGEnc converts perfectly without any chops or loss, but have realized in other movies which are at a different frame rate lets say the one i converted at the moment which the source was 23.976 fps converting it to PAL 25 fps, the quality of the picture is fine but motion of picture is a little choppy. i tried something else through TMPGEnc, i checked the box "Do not frame rate conversion", when i did that, i got no choppiness but then a delay in the audio. If anyone has any idea for the easiest best solution to have the audio non delayed and keep the motion of the picture smooth, that would be great. i have only come accross with this problem with movies that cotain an unusal frame rate.

I think the problem was TMPGEnc, coz i unistalled it and reinstalled it, reconfigured the environment settings to what it suppose to be and no more errors. I believe once you got the environment settings right TMPGEnc in nice to use bcoz i was getting some error messages before i think that caused problems when encoding some movies. I have finised encoding the movie now by using the original 23.976fps to NTSC and not PAL and quality and smoothness is perfect with no audio delays whatsover and not to mention, finally error free!
