Ok, I've been trying to follow some of the other posts but I keep getting lost on what Im trying to do.

I have a maxtor 80G hdd in my non-modded ps2, and hdloader. What I want to do is two things. First, is make my hdd compatible with the ps2 and socom, so I can download the new maps for socom next month without buying the official sony hdd. And second, I want to be able to boot my games on the hdd without using the hdloader cd. Are these two scenarios even possible? I just want to get everything compatible and easy to work... cause I'm a lazy son of a b$#@h. :)

Ps: I know about the memory card exploit, but you have to use a psx boot disc, so it defeats the purpose... right?

Thxs in advance for any help you guys have. I really hope this is possible.

The mem card exploit is for people that dont have the original HDLoader disc. If you have it, then yes, the exploit is useless. You can put Socom2 on your harddrive, if you patch it with your disc-id. You would also need to patch it with drk-sc2.ppf using a ppf patcher, like PPF-O-Matic, for use with new maps. OR you can put the patched game on a burned disc instead, if you have a way to boot backups. However, I dont understand how a patch is available to circumvent a product that is not yet available. Im a skeptic on the map patch.

Supposedly the DMS3 mod chip or some other chip will get a 3rd party drive to show up in the PS2 browser, but other than that, you need a disc to boot to HDLoader.

Ok then, thanks... I guess its not gonna be easy. But all I really want is to get my ps2 to recognize my 80G drive as the official sony one... this way I don't have to buy the sony hdd to use with the new maps.

hahaha... "Brothers from different mothers",:) if we ever get this solved we should all get together and play the new map. I'm still checking other sources online about this issue, not finding anything yet.
