Stabilization/Macrovision Removal. Best device?

I am using a TDK IndiCapture device for capturing my old VHS movies to PC in mpeg2 format for authoring to DVD.

Since this is the only capture device I have used thus far, the quality seems OK, but could probably benefit from stabilization & Macrovision removal.

After diligently searching the web, I have found many such "video filters", ranging in price from around $30 to many hundreds of dollars.

Can anyone recommend a brand or device that does a good job without screwing up the A/V sync, yet doesn't cost a bundle?
