ps2 reset/eject button issue

i put an old ps2 back toghether today and found out the reset button and eject button isnt being too friendly. When i switch the power on the red light comes up, but when hit nothing happens. It did start the thing up after holding it down for a good 15 seconds but im not having that luck anymore. When the PS2 did boot up, it did load gran turismo 3 successfully.

any ideas?

same thing happen to my ps2
but i got the button to work by holding in the white ribbon while pressing the button.
