Please help me install HD Loader.

I've spent days reading this forum and others trying to figure this out. Any ideas would be appreciated. My setup is listed in my signiture.

I started with an 80gb WD drive, and had to "rig" the network adapter to fit the drive. Got that accomplished and booted HD Loader. HD Loader tells me that there is no drive present so I find a copy a HD Advance and get the same results. Yes the drive is set to Master, and yes I've confirmed the drive works. There was only 1 time that HD Loader actually recognized the drive and attempted to format it, but hours later I gave up and assumed it wasn't going to happen.

So I check around and there is mixed results about the compatibility of that drive. I head to the store and picked up a Maxtor 160GB drive now. ( model # 6Y160P0 )

Swap drives, boot up HD Loader with the Maxtor and I get the same exact results. This drive when I searched has 100% compatibility with every version PS2 listed, so I am confused as to what the problem is here. HD Loader and HD Advance both tell me that no drive is present.

I've checked the new drive in my PC, and it is fine, and the jumper is set to Master.

I will however try it set to Cable Select and see where that gets me, if anywhere, as I've read that some people have had their drives recognized when using the "wrong" jumper.

Any advice? Ideas?

Download Winhiip. Put the drive in your PC and use WinHIIP to format it. Then see if HDLoader will recognize it.

Done that with both drives.

The Maxtor isn't recognized, and with the WD i'm told it needs to be formatted. I give it a try and it never completes. Drop the drive back in the PC and its untouched.

I'm exchanging the Maxtor for a WD120gb tomorrow. I've read of a few people with v.4 PS2s and that particular drive having good results.

Did you use WinHIIP? Did it finish the format? Exactly what happened?

It said it completed it and placed the hdl partition on the drive. i first erased it, which took a few minutes, and then formatted it which was almost instant. i thought something was odd there. but i sent over 5 games to it. afterwards winhiip still sees them as ps2 drives, so does ps2 handiness and hdldump and any of the other hdd tools out there.

I would try another drive. My WD did not work on the PS2, but the Samsung did. Its a hit or miss as to what will work.

I finally got it! I had to modify the Network Adapter when I first started this thing to fit an 80gb WD. I guess I damaged the harddrive part of the adapter because it just wouldn't work. I went and got a new adapter and every drive I have works like a charm now.
