Can someone help me figure out how to rip commercial DVD movie onto the hard drive and convert it to a JPEG or AVI, so that I can take clips from it?

u may try this...i have ulead videostudio (others should work similiar)

open dvd in timeline....u can break movie up in there.

i have done it goofing around...sorry cant help u much more than that.
