Not sure if this is what u r referring to but scroll down about 1/4 way down the page within this link,
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/265933
If this is what u r referring to and u r going to test your discs I would recommend that you make sure u r using the most current software from Nero. Also check out Nero DVD Speed.

that is another quirk with the 05.
I am finding that only the imitation -R will work and play back on other units with no problems
Staples brand +R records ok but wont play back in any of my other units.....Yes, all disks were finalized OK.
I think each 05 has its own taste for different brands of disks
I'm still testing different disks
The book and website says only +R and +RW should be used to record
The DVDR05 is a www.cyberhome.com model 1600
Thay have a lot more info on their site than iLo

how do i do this firmware to update my recorder
you are suppose to contact iLo customer support first but if you can find a way to do this, i wish you would let every one know how you did it
I have not done the upgrade yet because i am testing the "as is" firmware that the unit came with; V72 ( new is V76 ), but should be easy enough to do
go to http://www.cyberhome.com check support services at the top of their page
use this site for instruction ONLY...print them out for easy reference
note that their are 2 models........DVR1600 ZU and MU.....make sure you do the one that matched the model that you have
work your way to downloads
download the instructions for your model
go to http://www.iloservice.com find the firmware update for your model and use this Firmware
The firmware file is in .nrg and that is a Nero Burn image so it is best if you have the Nero burn or compatable program to make the upgrade disk
i hope that this works.....let us know how it turns out

I have a question that I'm sure that someone will b able to answer:are there any machines(dvd recorders)that can record copy protected vhs tapes and dvd without the external gadgets? and which are they? thanks
Itried that but it won't work because it is just a pass thru for the signal, works for the tv but not the vhs or dvd signal, thanks

some machines will allow copy of protected material.
You might try this on an iLo, do not know if it will work or not
Come out of the VCR using the VHF jack ( channel 3 ) and go into the DVDR via the VHF ( antenna )input jack with the recorder set to channel 3
If you try, please let us know

Before you get too fare into video copy protection you might want to check out this URL http://www.howstuffworks.com/question313.htm. It appars that the most poupler protect scheme injects 'noise' during the refresh time of the CRT. The normal TV is not 'fast' enough to notice however a video recorder must faithfulley reproduce even the retrace signel. You might get around this by going from ITSC to PAL and back again. Before you go too far be advised that at least here in the US messing with copy protection will liklely get you more jail time than child molesting. Oh well, take a look at that page.......

There is an MU1 model now. I replaced my MU with the MU1. I discovered the audio on recorded material was "slurred". Evidently this is a bug in the MU.
I have tried (-) media. I did some title renaming and some removal of unwanted clips. I also finalized and unfinalized the disc once. The iLo took them fine; but I had a hard time playing the DVD on another player. I ended up copying (it took several tries) the disc to a (+) disc to get it to work.
I haven't done any more work with (-) discs. I figure my excessive fiddling around with my previous attempt may have made it harder for other players to read the discs.

Hey guys, another newbie here with a dumb newbie question. In 2004 I bought an ILO DVD04 and it worked good for a while. Now I am not into this stuff as deep as you guys but I know a little. It finally crashed in Dec of 05. I replaced it with a DVDR05 with a serial # ending in MU1. Now I do read the forums alot but I can't for the life of me figure out the diffrence in the MU, MU1 and the ZU. I do like the 05 alot better than the 04. Had several diffrent problems like the DV in would not work. Went thru alot of dvds to get ones that would work. I sure would apreciate any info. Thanks

Each of the models of the '05 is an improvement over the others. You won't see anything on the outside that makes them different. All the changes have to do with the internal chapsets inside the units.

well I've tried many different things and so far what some of the other people have suggested has worked, the coax is just a "pass thru" for the tv signal, can record the tv programs that way but the dvd and vhs won't work because of the copy protection---so my question still is this what is the best, cheapest dvd recorder out there(besides the iLO 04)that will record copyright protected vhs and dvd ? I don't need one yet but I am the type of person that hates to wait till the last minute to try and find these things!

I just took the DVDR05MU out of the box and it will not read any disc I put in it. Called tech support and they said I will have to return it. I am living in Ecuador and a friend bought it at wal-mart and brought it to me, soooo I can't stroll down to my local wal-mart and return this thing. Ouch!

I had the same problem with the MU reading any commercial DVD. I returned it, and it worked. I suggest returning it and getting all your money back :)

Has anyone else noticed that 8X +R disks created on the ILO or the PC will not work on some DVD players? My Sony 8x disks will read or write on the PC and the ILO, however my older Panasonic player can't reconise them. 4X +r or +RW work everywhere.

My ILO DVDR05MU1 has no problem with 8X +R (at least I'm not creating a great many coasters). The PC has no problem with the current batch of Soney 8x. The older DVD player does not reconise 8X no matter where they were created. Also PowerDVD doesn't autostart on the 8X DVD, however if manualy started all works fine. 4X +R and +RW work fine everwhere, and I only get a coaster if I do something stupid. TRhis isn't makeing good sense as if I creat an audio CD on 8X or 48X cds it will play anywhere, even the P.O.S. in the car. The PC's DVD burner is a Lighton. I am more concerned about DVD at the moment however if I forget to set the burn speed it will burn an 8X CD at 48X and 95% of the time the audio CD will work.
Question, do 8X DVD finelise differently than 4X?

Are you playing the discs in the machine you recorded them on, or on another player. If on another player, make sure you finalize the disc before playing on another machine if you are using "R" media.

I do own another machine, but I do not play the discs from it in this one. This problem happens only to the discs that have been recording using this recorder. Even the finalized discs do it sometimes. If the disc hasnt been finalized it asks me to format the disc....again...
