UJ-810 Multidrive on Toshiba Satellite

I am having problems with this drive. I have, for some time, been writing video to DVD-R using MotionDV Studio, supplied with the computer. Something has happened, and now the program crashes while writing the final DVD, with a "Writing Failed" error. I can write data to DVD-RW and CDs using Drag and Drop CD/DVD so the drive appears to be working properly. At the same time the drive is supposed to be able to write to DVd-RAM, which it used to do, but now it can't even format the DVd-RAM disks - the format program says "In use". I feel like I have a gremlin somewhere that is stopping things working. Any ideas where I might try to start. I have contacted Toshiba, and they assure me that if i can use Drag and Drop then the drive is working fine!
