Patching a game using PS2 PAL TO NTSC PATCHER WITH Y-FIX V1.06 BETA

For this guide, I will be using Madden NFL 08 (SLES 548.12)

1)Make an ISO file of the game
a)Install DVD Decrypter.
b)Run DVDDecrypter.exe
b)Select Mode-->Iso-->Read
c)For the Source, choose the dvd drive that has the game in it.
d)For the Destination, select a location to save the ISO file.
e)Select File-->Decrypt. This will now create the ISO for the game.

2)Patch the ISO file

We start out by running ps2_pal2ntsc_yfix.exe. This is the start screen.

Leave the Y-FIX OFFSET to 48 and make sure the MAKE PN SELECTOR is unchecked.

Click Browse and locate the .iso file of the game that you want to patch.

In this example, we are using Madden NFL 08 (SLES 548.12). Locate the .iso file and click open. The image will load into the program.

Now click PATCH FILE. This will patch the .iso file and will create a backup of the elf file (SLES 548.12).

The .iso file is now patched. All you have to do is now burn the .iso file.

PS2 PAL TO NTSC PATCHER WITH Y-FIX V1.06 BETA F.A.Q.

1) What is a Y-Fix and why is it needed?
A Y-Fix shifts the screen up or down. This is done because when a PAL signal is converted to NTSC, the resulting image is moved down. Changing the Y-Fix offset will help the center the image on the screen.

2) Which Y-Fix offset should I choose?
The PAL video signal has more lines of vertical resolution than the NTSC signal does. There is no way of viewing the entire PAL signal. The best you can do is to center the signal. A Y-Fix offset of 48 centers the screen. However, some games will need a screen a little lower or higher, depending on the game. For instance, there might be a game that has an on screen map located on the lower left and portion of the screen that is cut off when a Y-Fix offset of 48 is used. A Higher Y-Fix offset would be beneficial in order to see the map displayed on the screen. The higher the Y-Fix offset, the higher the screen will be.

3) I downloaded a PS2 DVD and it was in a format (.mdf, .gi, .dvd) other than .iso. PAL to NTSC y-fix v1.06 Beta only accepts .iso format for dvd-rom games. How can I patch the game?
Just burn the game to DVD-R. Then, make an .iso from the DVD-R using DVD Decrypter.

4) I downloaded a PS2 DVD and I tried patching with PAL to NTSC y-fix v1.06 Beta, but the game didn?t load. I don?t want to have to re-download the game to get the .iso file again. How do I unpatch, so I can try with ADR Patcher?
When PAL to NTSC y-fix v1.06 Beta patches the .iso, it makes a backup of the elf file (SLES, SCUS, etc?). You can replace the patched elf file with the backup elf file and rebuild the game. Or, just make a copy of the .iso file before patching. That way, if it doesn?t work, you still have the other .iso to patch.

5) Does this work with PS2 games that are DVD9?
Yes. What you have to do is first patch the game to NTSC, then patch it again using Toxic Patcher, so it can be burned to DVD+R DL. However, you will need a modchip that supports DVD+R DL backups, such as the DMS3, DMS4, Matrix, and Crystal modchips.

6) Patching with PAL to NTSC y-fix v1.06 Beta didn?t work. Now what?
You can try one of the other methods, such as the ADR Patcher or video game cheat enhancer codes.

7) What is a PN Selector?
When this is enabled, a screen will pop up before the game loads and you can choose which signal you want to view the game in.

3)Burn the patched ISO file
a)Run DVDDecrypter.exe
b)Select Mode-->Iso-->Write
c)For the Source, locate your patched ISO file. The program patches and overwrites your orignal ISO file. Select your orignal ISO file.
e)For the Destination, select the dvd drive you wish to burn the game.
f)Select your prefered write speed
g)Select File-->Write. This will now burn the game.

For cd-rom games, I suggest using burnatonce.

Using burnatonce 0.99.5 -
http://dl.afterdawn.com/bao0995.exe
Create an ISO File
Select Read/Copy-->Read to Image. Click ok and save as ISO Image File type.

Burn an ISO File
Select File-->Load New Image. Load and burn the ISO Image File. The program patches and overwrites your orignal ISO file. Select your orignal ISO file.

If that patch method doesn't work, try the ADR Patcher. This has no y-fix option, so the screen will be a little off center. You can see if the game has an option in the menu for screen adjustment.

1)Download adr patcher:

2)Run adr_patcher.exe

3)Click browse and select the iso file of the game

4)Select .PS2 PAL -> NTSC PATCH ROUTINE (NO Y POS)

5)Select Begin Search.

6)The program will search for locations to patch the game. When it finishes, patch the file.

7)Burn the patched .iso file

Other F.A.Q.'s

1)How can I tell if the game is PAL?
The game will be displayed in Black and White and the screen will roll around.

2)Can every game be patched?
Most games have been sucessful, but some games wont work.

3)Is there any other alternative if patching is unsucessful?
Boot a copy of Swap Magic 3. After it loads, eject it. Insert the PAL game. Let it read the new TOC. Select NTSC on screen, then press the SQUARE BUTTON for special boot (Thanks ps4me). This:
http://www.modchipstore.com/PS2-Slide-Ca...ombo-16158.html

Also, you could buy a signal converter like this one from chipzone:

4)Can I use cheat enhancer codes to display the game correctly?
[i]Yes. You can use Codeseek made by Pyriel to find out the pal2ntsc code and the y-fix code as well. You can download it here: http://www.codemasters-project.net/porta.../request.php?10 You can find some useful guides on how to hack the codes here:
http://www.codemasters-project.net/porta...p?article.cat.1

5)Can I tell what region the disc is before burning the backup?
[i]Yes. Put your original into your dvd drive. Locate the elf file. If it is named SLUS or SCUS, it will be the USA release. If it is named SLES or SCES, it will be the PAL release. If you just have the .iso file of the game and you don't have the orignal, you can use Daemon Tools to view the files of the game.

Here is an example of what the files will look like. The elf file in this case is named SLES_529.50 which tells us that the game is PAL.

6)Is there a fullproof way of playing PAL games on my NTSC console?
Yes. Buy a multisystem tv. These are tv's that accept more than one signal. I recommend Planet Omni for a great selection of multisystem tv's.
I would recommend a tv like this.

It accepts the PAL and NTSC signals.

The plug for these tv's wont fit into an american electical outlet. So you will need to buy an adapter like this one:

http://www.bombayelectronics.com/Transformers/adapters.html

Look at the first entry - "Plug for USA". This is what it looks like. Just insert the plug of the multisystem tv into the adapter and then you will be able to plug the tv into the american wall socket. As you see it's only $.99. The one I saw at Radio Shack was like $4.99 or something.

Then just hook up the red, white, and yellow video cables from your usa ps2 into the multisystem tv. Select PAL as the video signal when playing PAL games or NTSC when playing NTSC games.

7)Are there any modchips that will automatically convert the signal for me?
Yes. The DMS3, DMS4, Matrix Infinity, and Crystal modchips can automatically convert the signal for you.

Hey what's up? I have used the program to supposedly patch the iso image..the file it created was called SCES_527.58.bak. I looked inside the iso.rar file and found a file named this minus the .bak My question is if this is right..is that the file that should have been created when I patched the iso? And do I delete the file SCES_527.58 and leave the file created when patched SCES_527.58.bak??? Or leave them both in. I have already made one coaster and would not like to make anymore.

The program makes a backup of the elf file, in case you want to undo the patch. After you click patch file, you are ready to burn the iso, you could just ignore the other file.

The iso you create should be gametitle.iso, there should not be a winrar archive file.

It works, it's just that the web site is sometimes temporarily unavailable because the site often exceeds its allocated data transfer.

I renamed the file I have on my hard drive to a .jpg file and uploaded it to imageshack.

http://img88.exs.cx/img88/4898/ps2_pal2ntsc_yfix.jpg

Just save the file to your hard drive. Then, right click on it and select Open With-->Choose Program-->Winrar Archiver. Then click extract to and extract the files to your hard drive.

Try ADR Patcher. This has no y-fix option, so the screen will be a little off center. You can see if the game has an option in the menu for screen adjustment.

1)Download adr patcher:
http://img167.exs.cx/img167/2601/adrpatcher059ap.jpg
a)Save the link to your hard drive
b)Right click on it and select open with-->winrar archiver
c)Click the Extract to button and extract the files to your hard drive.

2)Unzip the file and run adr_patcher.exe

3)Click browse and select the iso file of the game

7)Select .PS2 PAL -> NTSC PATCH ROUTINE (NO Y POS)

8)Select Begin Search.

9)The program will search for locations to patch the game. When it finishes, patch the file.

10)Run DVD Decrypter again and choose ISO-->Write and burn the patched iso file.

There is another thing you could try. You will need a cheat enhancer (gameshark, codebreaker, or xploder).

1)Download Codeseek and unzip it
http://www.codemasters-project.net/portal-english/apportal/inc/up...
2)Put your game in the dvd drive.
3)Run codeseek.exe
4)Check the boxes for Master Code and PAL2NTSC.
5)Click Search ELF
6)Locate and select the SLES file in the dvd drive where you have the game.

You will get a screen like this. Your results will be different than this.

This result gives us 6 different Mastercode possibilities and 1 possible PAL2NTSC code.

7)Try each one of the Mastercodes that you get seperately. See if the game will load with any of them. If you find one where the game loads with the mastercode on, type in the PAL2NTSC code as your second cheat and see if the game will correctly display for you.

You can also try the y-fix codes using codeseek to center the screen.

You can also buy this PAL2NTSC converter for the ps2 to see if that works.
www.chipzone.com/shop/showdetl.cfm?DID=12&Product_ID=229

Another choice would be to get the DMS3 modchip. It's a chip that is flash upgradeable via cdr. In the newest upgrade, there is an option to convert the signal from PAL and perform a y-fix also.

MrAmos,

You can try this program.

utilities.psxforum.com/adr_patcher0_5.zip

Titof301,

You should be using the SCES file. When using a cheat device like codebreaker or gameshark, you can input codes that change the game code. There is a mastercode that has to be enabled for any other code to work. WIth your results, you have two potential mastercodes of F0800008 0000000E and F0800008 000001FD. What you would do is use you cheat enhancer and first input F0800008 0000000E as the mastercode and see if the game will boot up. If it doesn't, try F0800008 000001FD to see if that one will work.

Once you have found a mastercode that works, then you can use other codes along with it. Your results, however, had no result for the PAL2NTSC code, so patching using this method, wont work.

Hey I downloaded Garfield for shits and giggles and it was in a PAL version. My ? is how do I patch it if it came in a bin/cue file form??? I have tried to make it into an iso file but to be honest with ya I've tried making my own iso files with isobuster and I have no idea what to do cuz the one's i've made have never worked. I tried DVD Decrypter but the game is a cd rom not dvd. Any thoughts on how I could make this into an iso file? What am I doing wrong through isobuster??? Thanks for any help you can give me.

bossplaya, i think that with alcohol 120% it will work

and sorry nrk4594 it's me again, i try the two code, with the first, all my dvd of the game did the same thing that before i change the code (boot in black and white with jumping image and sound or boot with the sound but no image)
and with the second code, which boot with no sound now not boot at all (no sound and image), and the others who boot with sound and black and white jumping image, now dont boot but have again a jumping image... so with that, i can deduced that the first code seem to be the good, but what i can do to have the image, i seem to be again in pal...

Yes The Getaway Black Monday is in an iso file already. I can't get this gooddamn Garfield cd rom disc to work though. Made it into an iso file using Alcohol 120% and then patched it just fine but for some reason it will not load after swaping discs. Damnit I guess I'll just give up. Ruin to discs but they were just cds not dvds so I'm out 2 bucks. Oh and I use suprnova.org alot but have been using http://www.torrentbits.org for awhile now and even though they don't have as many files as suprnova I like it alot better.

The program will accept iso or bin files. The success rate isn't 100%. There have been games that wont work. I'll edit my first post to start a list of games that wont work.
