error when copying analog vhs to final cut express

i get an error message (general error, out of memory) when copying some analog vhs tapes to final cut express. i use a dazzle analog to digital converter. computer is g5 with 1 tb of memory and 1 gb of ram.
Not all clips cause this, but i can't understand the reason.
