Matrix infinity stopped working

I recently installed a Matrix Infinity into my v9, and it worked great, had no problems playing originals or backups, games or DVD films. Today I tried to boot a backup DVD that wouldn't work in my PC or DVD player, I could hear the disc spinning up realy fast and the screen went black after the playstation logo.
Now it wont run back up games. Originals run fine, and 'infinity v1.3' is written underneath the logo as they boot, but back ups just go straight to red screen asking to insert ps2 format.
When I disable the chip it says matrix infinity disabled as usual, so the chip seems to be working.
Any body have any suggestions?

I just also tried booting CD, both original and back up music CD's. If the PS2 is laid flat it goes to browser and gives a disc error, yet if I turn the unit on its side and reset, the CD will boot straight away. Back up games still not working though, still goes to red insert playstation media screen.
Does anyone know if the fault could be with the laser? The thing worked fine until I tried to boot a bad DVD movie.

In case anyone is interested, should they have similar problems, I checked my connections and found that the wire on chip pin 'B' had worked loose - I guess from vibrations when trying to load the bad disc.
Reconnected and the machine is working great again, though I still have to put it on its side to boot CD's - wierd.
