Is it possible to boot backups with just a GS and Flip top?

I got my fliptop working fine with all my games, but I can't play backups because ps2cover.com said they had to recall my swap discs and reship them. I have a GameShark, and I want to know if I can boot my backups with it until my swap discs arrive.
