PS2 DVD Laser Problem

I have a magic 3.1 v4 ps2 and I'm having problems reading dvd's that is it doesn't. The problem started when I finally got pissed off at the ps2 not reading dvd-r's correctly so I opened it up and adjusted the voltage for the dvd laser and adjusted it all the way around, now it will not read any dvd's at all actual or otherwise. I later tried going through the positions very slowly but nothing I'm thinking I might have screwed the laser all together but would like a few opinions whether it would be worth getting a new laser or not? I was going to order this part http://www.playstationconnection.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/33/products_id/131 if anyone knows if this is the only thing I would need please post and thanks in advance.
