i got my ps2 on ebay when i got it wouldn't read unless i loaded a game about 25 times. so i sent it to my uncle to get fixed and he got it working just by cleaning it then he said that he tried to put a mod in and the ps2 dint play ps2 games play dvds and didnt play ps1 games now it plays ps2 games but not ps2 games(this is with out the mod) he thinks the laser isnt calibrated or somthing else is wrong i think i might need a new laser but dont know

please, help if u know any way to fix it.

do you know what kind of chip is in it, check to see if not. If it has a mod chip it should boot. I dealt with chipzone and am happy, you might want to call them about repairs to this unit. good luck

have you tried this guide for the laser adjustment, there's quite a few little tricks you can do to keep the laser going. it may be on it's way out but this will help extend the life a little bit longer. What happens is if the laser does't recognize the disk fast enough while it's in the boot up stage then it goes to the browser/configuration menu and in my experience with most chips they will then not boot properly at that point. what i did to figure this out was go into the browser and load a dick and do a count to see how long it takes to recognize it in the browser. if it's more than a 10 count(you know 1 one thousand, 2 one thousand 3 one thousand and so on) then thats too long, i have found certain media works better than others also with a bad laser. memorex dvd-r is best usually not cheap no name media. anyway here is the laser fix up page give it a try.

the adjusting lens angle part 1 is usually a pretty good fix for most, but if the laser is really going then tweaking up the voltage definitly works but is the last resort. good luck
