Hey guys. I've been using Azureus(?) for a few months now and it seems pretty decent.
I download 4Gig+ files on a regular basis and haven't had one problem. I'm now looking into newgroup applications like 'Newsbin Pro' and it looks like a big learning curve.
What I like about the Torrent community is that you don't have to chase down 40+ files for your DL, only one torrent and the software does the rest for you.
Is the Newsgroup route something to invest in? The speeds are always amazing off the local server, but it looks like a lot of BS is involved.
Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Hello Brad,
I have been using newsgroups for about 6 months now and I would highly recommend it. It does take a bit of getting used to but well worth it. It is best to get an account with a premium news server. I use newshosting and it is $15 a month for unlimited downloads. I always get my full connection speed which is great and I dont have to upload anything (unless I want to of course). To get the most out of newsgoups I would recommend you get an account with this website.. www.newzbin.com You can download NZB files from the website which saves you downloading all the headers in a particular group (This can save a great deal of time).
Here are some links....

It works out at $15 (£8) a month for access to the server and to be honest I dont mind paying that because I download a shit load from them and I get it fast. I have had full speed from torrents but not very often. Also torrents are only fast if there are enough seeds etc. With newsgroups its a case of someone posting the file then anybody can have access to that file whenever they want. No uploading required. It does not depend on seeds or sources like torrent or edonkey. Depending on what newserver you choose you have about 20 days to get files.
As for learning how to use it? well it is not that difficult. Especially if you use NZB files from the newzbin website. Just a case of downloading and extracting the files.
All I'm saying is that if you dont mind paying a little Newsgoups are the fastest way to get files with none of the upload pish.

its because of people like u that the scene will crumble, their is no point in paying, and people SHOULD share.

Which specific scene will crumble then Loner? Newsgroups are for leeching, its as simple as that. I dont mind sharing on edonkey or with torrents because it helps the network stay fast and I do post to usenet, just not when Im downloading anything.

There is point. I have access to a different network that has a wealth of very large files which I can get quick and without hassle and if that costs a little then so be it. There are plenty people out there like me. Its obvious Usenet is not for you because you need to part with some money so your best sticking with torrents.

dude, i know newsgroups are for leeching, so are torrents, edonkey - etc
but, the fact of the matter is that you are paying for downloading illegal files...
whats wrong with that?
1. its immoral
2. its illegal, and u can get caught very very easily
3. its pathetic - you paying for files that other people get for free? at the same speeds? if not faster...

lol, i like you sig dude, just exactly what 'people' are you?

Newsgroups have been around for a very long time, long before P2P came along. Newsgroups have about 1,000,000 more legit uses other than pirated files, as there are many thousands of groups that are not binary groups. And yes you always had to pay for access, unless your ISP ran a good news server that carried a lot of groups, if not, then paying for another one is the ideal way to go and I'd recommend it to anyone as you could always find groups to suit your interests.
P2P is NOT about leeching, eDonkey, Bit Torrent etc. are built on a foundation of sharing, simple if you dont share, you're a leecher, you get banned from servers/trackers. If you read how newsgroups work, then its kind of funny, its almost like its own little P2P network of news servers in a way :-)
And as for "The" Scene, if ytou are refering to the scene whoch has gopne back decades, then not sharing wont kill the Scene. P2P has nothing much to do with the scene, except scene releases end up being shared on it. That in itself is a good and a bad thing, whatever perspective you look at it from.
The way i see it is, Newsgroup access is well worth paying monthly fee's for and in many ways, Newsgroups whoops P2P's ass!
oh and P.S. play nice!!

The fact that you have an opinion on newsgroups is frankly laughable since you have not even used them.
Quote: dude, i know newsgroups are for leeching, so are torrents, edonkey - etc
Now thats the sort of attitude that will make "the scene" crumble.

Well...thanks for all the feedback. I scored it:
Allin 4
Loner 0 (if that IS his real name ;p)
I guess one point that can be made is that file sharing is based on speed, availability and reliability. The Kazzars and eDonkeys communities out there have none of the above - because there are way too many cretins in the 'scene' ruining it for everyone.
My 2 cents: Newsgroups are great and don't REQUIRE a paid subscription. Torrents are great too and from my experience, are actually easier to manage that 20+ files wihtout .nzb scripts.
Cheers!
