Alright I ordered my son a modchip a Duo2 SE. The first time I (tried) installed it, things didnt go well. I ended up making a PS2 parts machine. So being th stubborn person I am I had to give it another try. I went onto EBay and won a auction for another PS2.

While I waited I used the parts machine (fried PS2) to practice on. I solder alittle everyday, getting better at it. Still I was a little leary of doing it, once the PS2 arrived. I decided to research different types of solder. To my suprise I decided to do something that I hadnt read about. To use a paste solder from Radio Shack.

Then it was time to start. I took the PS2 apart and began. I noticed that the paste would come out way to fast to add it directly onto the MB. So I placed some in a container. Then I took a cuetip and removed most of the cotton from one end. I would then dab it into the paste then where I needed to solder.

For solder to the chips on the board, I would dab the wire into the paste. Until I would get enough onto the wire sometimes using my hand to mold it around the wire. Making sure there was enough and not to much. Each time I was ready to make the paste into a solid solder, I just had to touch the iron onto it for a split second.

The solder wire method for me was not strong enough. I couldnt always get a solid enough beed onto the wire to make it stay. With the paste I had no trouble I literaly could pick the machine up with the wire after using the paste (after touching the iron to it making it solder).

After I was done and put the PS2 back together, I was still a little nervous about plugging it up. I wasnt ready to have another parts machine. So I finally hooked it up. I had backed up a couple of my sons games and put the originals up. I hooked up the PS2 and loaded one of the backups into the machine. I hit the reset button, I must of jumped 4 foot in the air once it loaded. IT WORKED!...

Just thought I would share this story. Maybe someone will get some use out of it. Remember it still takes time using the paste. IT would probably still be better to have a professional install it. But for those of you that have the patience a magnifying glass and a steady hand :)

NOTE: I didnt have to use and desolder. I dont even know if the desolder works with the paste method.

I take no responsibility if you fry your machine. Using a paste or regular solder.

The paste I believe cost me 5 dollars.

Reset/eject should function the sameway as it did before.

Sorry for the very large delay in answers...
