I've had the DVP642 for a few weeks and it has played pretty much everything I've thrown at it, up till now.

I have a few AVIs that, when I select them, the screen goes black and "PLAY" comes up, but then the player just sits there. It doesn't respond to the remote, with the exception that you can turn the power off by holding "Power" for 10 seconds.

It's not the burn or the media, because other files on the same disk play fine.

Here is what GSpot says about the file:
AVI File Details
========================================
Name.........: E03.avi
Filesize.....: 347 MB (or 355,461 KB or 363,992,562 bytes)

Video Codec..: XviD
Video Bitrate: 865 kb/s, 23.97FPS

Stream Type: OpenDML AVI, "rec list" style IMRR 1.20
Interleave: 30.8 vid frames (1286 ms), Split: No

Here's a file that works from the same DVD:
AVI File Details
========================================
Name.........: E07-HD-LOL.avi
Filesize.....: 350 MB (or 358,870 KB or 367,482,880 bytes)
Runtime......: 00:42:33 (61,206 fr)
Video Codec..: XviD
Video Bitrate: 1033 kb/s, 23.97FPS
Audio Codec..: 0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3
Audio Bitrate: 110 kb/s (55/ch, stereo) VBR LAME3.92
Frame Size...: 608x336 (1.81:1) [=38:21]
Stream Type: OpenDML AVI IMRR 1.00
Interleave: 1 vid frame (42 ms), p=480 Split: No

Any thoughts on what I could do to make these files playable would be appreciated.

Thanks,
- Tony

I figured out that the interleave was the issue. A quick run
through mencoder solved the problem:

mencoder -idx input.avi -ovc copy -oac copy -o output.avi

http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/HTML/en/menc-feat-fix-
avi.html

and now the file plays fine.
