copied dvds won't play on dvd player

I use CloneDVD3 to copy dvds. This works on encrypted dvds really well, except for one thing, the finished copies will play on my computer, but not on my dvd player. The dvd player is a new one, so that is not the problem. What am I doing wrong? Can anyone help me with this? Any suggestions would be very appreciated. Thanks

Not all DVD players can read +R so you may want to just try DVD-R, or check if they're compatible or not

Hi crftyldy and welcome to afterdawn. I am a newbie, but i like to check out the forums on the wonderful world of dvd burning. I had a problem with playing my copied discs from my home dvd burner. You may try what i did. I just took copies of my dvd's to friend's and family and had them try to play them. I can only burn in + format. I was surprised by only about half could watch the +r and very few +rw. So i asked what the ones that played ok with and it was sony and sanyo.I went to my local walmart and they had a very nice display in order from lowest to highest cost. What was nice about the display,they had a flip type rolodex in front of each player showing their specs. Some said they could play + , some -. I was surprised at the variety of different formats. Did'nt have to worry about this kind of stuff for vhs lol. I had quite a few movies burned on +rw and no way of watching them on my extra player. I picked out a single tray sony dvp-ns325. The specks said this player will play +/- on r's and rw's.This player is playing everything i burn now. Now i just got hooked on computers, it plays everything off my pc. I wish i would have known this a year ago. Also, just about every member here recommends ridata discs. I myself am using verbatim datalife. good media+slow burn=excellent copies. I hope this may help you or anybody else. bye

Thanks so much for all the help. My dvd player is a Sanyo, and haven't had a problem playing my home made dvds before on it. So, that's why I'm really confused about this problem I'm having now. My daughter burned a few for me, and they play on this player. But will check out the info you gave me, and, thanks again.

I had the exact same problem a short while ago. It's true that not all players will play +r/rw discs, however if the DVD player is modern then it should be of no problem (even a PS2 will play them).
The problem I had was the way in which I was copying the DVD. I think I am correct in saying that the DVD filesystem has to be UDF, Universal Data Format, in order for players to read the disc, no matter what media (=/-). As I have not used CloneDVD before, I am not familiar with the way it works, however it maybe (as you can only play the DVDs using your PC) that the filesystem is incorrect.
Apart from trying different media/discs, I'm not sure how else to advise you. Anyway I hope this helps you.

I solved the problem. I tried a newer version of CloneDVD, and, apparently, it wasn't closing or finishing the disc, therefore, it wouldn't play anywhere except my pc. I went back to the original program, and tried again. Plugged it into my dvd player, and it played just fine. They have just recently added CloneDVD3, and it seemed so much better, more options, and preferences, but does have that flaw. I tried contacting customer support, but no one ever replied to my email. Thanks for all your help.

Not a problem. Roxio drag-to-disc caused me no end of headaches, again because the disc wasn't finishing correctly (resulting in incorrect FS).
Anyway glad to help out.
