Option in Tmpgenc DVD Author

I have a set-top DVD recorder. I record 30 minute TV shows to DVD-RAM and then rip from the DVD-RAM to my PC so I can edit the video (cut out commercials and whatnot) and make a finalized DVD Video once I get five episodes together. I am using Tmpgenc DVD Author 1.6. One of the options I see in this software, in the "Edit Clip" area is a check box that says "Re-encode the audio using the output format of the track". What does this do, precisely, and why/why not would I check it? I do not want the audio to be any different than it is on the source vob file I ripped from DVD-RAM. I assume that checking it will somehow add unnecessary time when I go to build the VIDEO_TS folder.
