I had this problem when I first hooked mine up. Did you use the setup disc?

I'm using a Surfboard cable modem which has usb and ethernet. When i'm not using my comp (usb)....I use an ethernet line (which has to be a cat6 cable) running to my ps2. Mine didnt work untill I reset the modem after its hooked to the ps2. I know it sounds like a pain in the ass but it worked for me. Look for a tiny pinhole to reset the modem. Try that then post with results.
