Okay so I finally got a working external DVD burner. I succesfully burned an AVI to DVD today but it took like over 2 hours for Toast Titanium 6.0.7 to encode it ..then about 3 minutes to burn it. Why does it take so darn long and is there something else I can do to reduce this amount of time. Do I need another program or something? Please Help!
thanks.

Sounds to me like you need a faster mac.

How fast is your processor? How long was the video?

It is amazing how long it takes to compress MPEG1 verses
MPEG2. MPEG1 takes WAY longer.

I do know that I compressed a 24 minute quicktime file that
was originally 720x480/29.97fps (DV basically). It took my
client 3 hours to compress for a VCD. My Dual G5 2gig took
about 30 minutes....

That's why I suggested a faster machine. Perhaps it was
optimized for the G5 and dual processing... Heck my G4/400
would probably take 8 hours!

I too just finished burning some music videos that i have (20 in total) using Toast and it took me like 2.5-3 hrs for it to encode as well, and only 3 minutes to burn...what a piss off.
