Hi there,
I'm new to the forum and i have searched high and low this and other forums for an answer but nothing!
I have two pc's, one at home which is a high spec athlon which plays fine with the codecs installed as guided by this forum, and then there is my laptop :-(
My symptoms are as follows:
1) When i watch dvd's it plays but is a little jerky.
2) When i play any avi's (xvid, divx etc) it plays fine for around 10mins then the video slows down behind the audio (which plays fine). If i pause it and the play again sometimes it goes back to normal speed and then it takes a shorter amount of time for the same thing to happen. Its always the video which slows down and never the audio.
3) I've tried cutting the colour down to 16bit and the screen down to 800x600 and nothing changes except the time before it slows down is a bit longer but it still slows down.
I don't have any programs running except norton antivirus 2005 which i disabled but still nothing.
My laptop is a 1ghz pIII with 256mb ram, 20gb hd free and 32mb shared S3 Twister graphics chip (but i can't seem to get hardware support for video in any players). For everything else it works great. But for video playback its really crap. I've read that my spec is ok so i checked my codecs. I've installed the codecs as the guide says but there was no difference so i reinstalled my pc from scratch with WinXP Sp2 and just the ffdshow (newest version) no difference and then added koepi's newest xvid codec and still no difference. I've tried different software player like WMP10, 9, 6.2, divx player which all vary slightly but none good. Does anyone know what could be wrong? My laptop does gets pretty warm underneath so could it be cooling? If it was though i dont understand why it would play fine again if i pause for a few seconds? I wondered if maybe my system resources aren't good because the cpu seems to work around 90% when videos play.
Cheers for any help
