I have read through most of this forum, but remain unclear about burning original dvd;s or rented dvd's that have copyright protection...

Can Dvd Shrink do this? And if so, do I need other programs like dvd encryptor to do this?
or can dvd shrink do it all?

can i copy directly from dvd to dvd, or do i have to save it first as an ISO file then copy it??? How about if i use dvd shrink to back the movie up on my HD then copy it to cd?? Can i do this, and what way is better?

I really appreciate anyone who can anwser my dumbass questions... Thanx in advance...

Well, unfortunately in your reading you didn't stumble across one of my favorite threads. It contains most every question a beginner might have and some step by step instructions on on doing a backup. My only other suggestion might be to get a couple RW discs to begin with in case there are problems. That way you don't waste a disc, and can just rewrite if a burn error occurs. Here's a link to the thread.....

Another good source for shrink info is here....

DVD Shrink will do it all for you. As long as you have some type of burning software on your PC.
Here's a couple guides that if you follow to the "T" you will have no problems backing up your original DVD's.

Hope this helps :-)

I have done some reading on this forum to learn how to copy dvd's using DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter, as i didnt want to bother anybody for something that i could learn my self. I have read scubapetes guide "Uncle" ScubaPete's can't miss "We're going ta burn a DVD backup right now, youngin's'" Guide to backing up, but i have encountered a problem.

I did everything it said to do in DVD Shrink, and it successfully backed up the dvd to my folder, and then it opened DVD Decrypter ready for burning. I then put in a blank DVD-R (1-4x), and it said 'device not ready:logival unit is in process of becoming ready. It then said getting book type, and then dicn not empty...
That i dont understand, because it did it with 3 blank dvds...

This is what was shown on the right side:

RICOH DVD+RW MP5240 1.08 (ATA)
Current Profile: DVD-ROM

Disc Information:
Status: Complete
Erasable: No
Sessions: 1
Sectors: 2,298,497
Size: 4,707,321,856 bytes
Time: 510:48:47 (MM:SS:FF)

And in the decrtpter log:

I 12:26:27 DVD Decrypter Version 3.5.1.0 started!
I 12:26:27 Microsoft Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600)
W 12:26:27 Drive C:\ (FAT32) does not support single files > 4 GB
W 12:26:27 Drive D:\ (FAT32) does not support single files > 4 GB
I 12:26:27 Initialising SPTI...
I 12:26:27 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...
I 12:26:28 Found 1 DVD-ROM/CD-RW and 1 DVD+RW!

Can anyone see what I have done wrong???

I appreciate if anyone can send me in the right direction, and thanks in advance...:)

Sounds like a decrypter problem. Try just putting the movie on your hard drive first. Then burn with Decrypter or Nero. That may work better and is usually faster..
If this dosent work could be your drive. Can you burn Data to your disk?

Do you mean I should backup with shrink just to a HD folder? Should I save it as an ISO file, or as a normal Video-ts file? If i burn it with Nero, what do i have to go to?

Thanks for replying my message
