I just got the charter DVR and I am trying to figure out what is the best remote to use with it.

I have a Apex tv, aiwa receiver, cyberhome dvd and the charter motorola dvr

I picked up the radio shack 8-1 remote but the codes are not working for the dvr. I need the code for the dvr for the remote its a radio shack 8-1 remote model 15-2116
I don't want to use 3 remotes at a time and the receiver doesn't work throught the tv it has to come from the charter box. The ned charter dvr's have no volume option like the digital box did. Also the DVR nevers turns off so I can not search for a code with the remote
