I just got a DVD of a music concert that I want to rip the audio off of to put onto a CD. I have no idea how to do this. I read in one forum that I would need to do the following:
SmartRipper to rip the VOBs
DVD2AVI to create WAV file
CDEx (free) to encode and normalize WAV to MP3 using Lame (the best MP3 encoder)
I started at the top of the list with Smartripper and got totally lost. It keeped telling me that files were locked.
I would appreciated if anyone would take the time to tell me a step by step process on what I need to do to rip the audio off the DVD and put it in MP3 format. If there is information already on the internet on how to use these products, just tell me where to find it please. Thanks a lot.
Sounds like Smartripper can't unlock the VOB files (they're encrypted on the disc so you can't just make a straight copy from DVD to DVD). Open your DVD playing software and play the DVD for about 15 seconds, then close it and bingo! Smartripper'll be able to rip the VOB files no problem.
Try changing the access mode to ASPI or ASPI (1Gb Files) in Smartripper options... If it's already set to ASPI then change to Normal and try again. To test to see if it works, and you've already unlocked the disc, you'll need to eject the disc and re-insert it otherwise it will stay unlocked...
Also, there's a chance you may not have the ASPI layer installed. I recommend you download it from the Adaptec site: http://www.adaptec.co.uk/worldwide/support/suppdetail.html?sess=no&prodkey=ASPI-4.70 . Once you've downloaded the package, run ASPICHK.EXE to see if you have ASPI installed. If you don't, install ASPI, reboot, and you'll be able to rip your VOB files without having to manually unlocking the disc first.
