Hello, I am trying to get a movie that I have in .avi format onto my DVD, like a VCD except that it will be on a dvd. Anyways I followed the guide on this website on how to do this, the Avi to DVD guide. On the step where you have to extract the audio using VirtualDubMod, it says I have an .ac3 file (the better audio, like surround sound). So anyways all was fine even after the 30 hour encoding process until I burned the files onto the DVD, that's when I found out that after trying to play it on my DVD player, there is no sound. I have no idea what i'm doing wrong, since I'm pretty sure I followed the guide exactly as it said to do the things. I mean I got the files from the DVD Author software(IFO Edit) and I did put both the Audio and Video files when the program was making the final DVD files. And I did put all the files I was supposed to into the Video folder in Nero for DVD-Video. Please, if you think of anything that will make the DVD have sound and video then help, I've already lost 2 dvd's. Thanks

You could try VSO DivxToDvd and CopyToDvd http://www.vso-software.fr/ . OR if you have NeroVision Express, you can burn your AVI file fom there, NVE>make dvd video>add movie>burn.

Does NVE convert the AVI file directly to make the dvd? Is the end result as good as doing it any other way?

Yea, it converts the AVI the same as if you converted the file yourself, quality doesn't change.

use the following tools and guides to make a DVD from AVI and the like:
1. winrar
http://www.rarsoft.com/rar/wrar320.exe
It doesn't expire, all that happens is you get a 'Nag-Screen' which pops up when you open winrar, saying licence has expired, or something close to that, but you can still use it ok.
a) OK, you open the .rar file or open any one of the rar files, then you extract it. Rar files vary in format, they can be .rar, .r01, .r02, .001, .002, and etc... -- What I do is usually extract the .rar file and if it doesn't exist, I open the last highest number rar file and extract that.
b) This should extract 2 files for you. A .bin and .cue file. Once, you have your .bin and .cue file, you should delete those rar files now to free up some space.
2. isobuster

3. TMPGEnc (1:1 VGA & no borders keep aspect ratio)
http://www.videohelp.com/tmpgencdvd.htm
4. TMPGEnc DVD Author (create menues and stuff)
http://www.dvd-guides.com/content/view/53/59/
Total process takes at least an hour 1/2.

5. burn dvd with nero
