Hi all, I am planning on buying some sort of gaming system for xmas, and I was wondering which of the two were a better buy. Keep in mind, I intend on making back ups of all games purchased, as I have children that will no doubt wreck them. Any advice as to which system will be better suited for me would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I have both systems and have modded both. Xbox is the better system because of it's flexibility and usefullness after being modded. PS2 has more game titles going for it.

Thank you for your reply. I think I will probably get a xbox, but still have no idea how to mod it. Obviously this would be something that I would have to get done for me.

Be careful when modding system. real easy to break. Do your research before you buy. PS2 have more games and are easy to make back up games using a $50.00 dvd burner. XBox can do a great deal more but not easy to back up games you need to network your xbox to computer and use program off the net to make a backup. do a google search on users groups for bothe systems and you will find a great deal of helpful info
Good luck

www.xbox-scene.com is a great place to start if you want to learn how to mod your xbox. besides playing games, i used my xbox (XBMP) apps to stream divx, dvd, etc that is stored on my computer to my tv via the network. I can also stream music and pictures that is stored on my pc to my tv via the xbox. Halo 2 does kick ass. Finished it already and playing again in legendary mode. Killzone for the PS2 is pretty good too. I'm also addicted to Ace Combat 5 on the PS2.

Thank you all for your input. I guess my next question would be: If I did get the ps2, would I still have to mod it to play backed up games? I understand that both systems have different qualities to offer, but in the long run, which is the easiest (in terms of backing up games) for the dollar?

Hey
I would have to reccomend a PS2 over an Xbox any day.
The Xbox is more powerful but a system is only as good as its selection of games will allow it to be. Everyone knows both Xbox and PS2 have great games but in the end the majority will always rule. PS2 is unmatched in its selection of games. The only way your kids would ever notice a differece in graphics for a game on both systems would be if they where to have both systems on tv screens side by side and stare at each for hours. A lot of people buy both sytems for those elite games that are only available for a specific system such as Halo 2(Xbox) or GTA San Andreas (PS2), but when it comes down to the facts, PS2 holds more of the elite title and highly popular games.
(PS. Honestly i would have an xbox if all the sytems had access to every video title made, but that is not the case.)
